Two individuals from the UK, Paul Mappley and Yip Ward, faced challenges in purchasing a property with their savings in their home country. Ultimately, they made a significant leap by acquiring a village in France.

We Bought a Village, the couple disclosed their unprecedented accomplishment of buying the historic hamlet of La Busliere in Normandy for €14,000 (approximately £11,775). This became a turning point for them, considering they had never previously owned even a studio flat in the UK. They now intend to transform the village into a luxury holiday destination.
La Busliere comprised six cottages, two barns, a paddock, a two-storey workshop, cider press, and communal bread oven. Despite these assets, the cottages currently lack an electricity supply.
Prior to this extraordinary acquisition, the couple lived in a caravan in Tunbridge Wells, Kent. They were offered the opportunity to purchase the village in 2019, which was a significant shift from their previous living situation.
Reflecting on their past struggles, Yip shared with The Sun, “In the area where we lived before 2021, it would cost around £300,000 to buy a small dwelling, which was beyond our means.”
Paul added, “We had always rented, and we were living in a lovely static mobile caravan owned by a friend. But when our friend decided to sell it, we began to worry about our future.”
The journey to buying the village was an exhilarating prospect for them. Paul expressed their feelings, “When we learned about Le Busliere through a friend, we started to believe that this could truly become a reality for us.”
The couple admitted that the process has been challenging at times, especially due to financial constraints. However, they are immensely grateful for their current situation. “When we initially moved in, the conditions in the village were far from ideal, but we have gradually made it comfortable,” Paul remarked.
